The following programs and services are available through the Baton Rouge Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation. Speakers are provided to discuss topics dealing with stress, nutrition, and advocacy skills. Circle of FriendsThe sitting service provides a trained sitter for hospitalized clients who are experiencing sickle cell crisis. Fountain of HealthA monthly hydration program which allows clients to receive sports drinks to assist in maintaining their hydration. TransportationTransportation is provided to medical appointments. Infant Care ProgramA program to educate new parents and to help monitor the development of newborns diagnosed with sickle cell disease. Trait Counseling ProgramCounseling is provided to individuals who have the trait or the disease. Testing is also available through this program. Prescription Drug Assistance ProgramThis program provides financial assistance for the purchase of prescription medication for sickle cell clients Medical Durable ProgramA co-payment of $100 per year is provided to clients for the purchase of wheelchairs, eyewear, crutches, etc. ScholarshipsA $200 award is granted to sickle cell clients who graduate from high school and are enrolling in a college, university, or trade school. LASCA Adult Patient/Advocate RetreatThis is a weekend retreat for adult clients and caregivers to address the needs of persons living with sickle cell disease. The retreat is held in the summer in a selected Louisiana city. Med Camps of LouisianaA one week summer camp for children clients ages 6-16, it is held in northwest Monroe. Medicaid Application Center We are an approved Medicaid application center and will take applications from anyone who is interested in applying for Medicaid on Mondays-Fridays by appointments.
