"10 for 10" Champions For Sickle Cell
Dr. James B. Herrick made a noted discovery in 1910 that explained abnormal red blood cells. Today, his discovery, sickle cell anemia, is prevalent in the African American community but affects other ethnicities as well. In commemoration of the 100th year anniversary of Dr. Herrick’s contribution to the medical field, we proudly launch our 2010 Champion Campaign! We are planning several fundraisers for the first quarter of this year to set the tone for a h uge celebration in September, Sickle Cell Month! We need your help to realize our goals. In January, we are hosting a “10 for 10”. We are asking that you get involved by donating $10.00 and asking nine of your friends to do the same (totaling $100.00 per individual, businesses and organizations). We Need Your Seeds... Visit the office today to pick up your “10 for 10” packets! "100 PENNIES" Champions For Sickle Cell The Foundation has called upon area elementary schools to help bring awareness to sickle cell disease through donations. Each participating student is asked to donate 100 pennies to the foundation. The number 100 commemorates the 100th year anniversary of sickle cell in the western world! This fundraising initiative offers several benefits to the participants: 1. Students will be educated on sickle cell disease. 2. Counting money will enhance students' math skills. 3. Students will learn the importance of caring for others. Help Us...Make Sure Your Child Donates "100 Pennies"!
